Qualcomm Introduces Snapdragon X Elite PC Chipset to Compete With Apple M-Series
Qualcomm, the company behind Snapdragon chipsets for mobile devices, has expanded its lineup of chipsets and announced the Snapdragon X Elite platform for PCs. The tech giant claims this platform utilizes AI inference, is based on a 4nm process node and features a 12-core Oryon processor with low power consumption, allowing for “several days” of battery life.

In this new platform, Qualcomm has integrated its AI engine and Hexagon NPU to enable various features. In addition, the chipset enables the execution of generative AI LLM models with over 13 billion parameters – all on-device.
As for the core specs, the Snapdragon X Elite gets 12 cores clocked up to 3.8GHz, with single and dual core boost clocks up to 4.3GHz. It includes an Adreno GPU that supports 4.6 teraflops of power.
In addition, the new platform also gets Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU, which enables 45 terabytes of operations per second.
The chipset supports 4K displays with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and enables LPDDR5X memory with a bandwidth of 136 GB/s and a maximum memory capacity of 64 GB. In terms of connectivity, the chipset features a Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF system that supports 5G NR, HSPA, sub-6 GHz, Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), LTE, WCDMA, CBRS and mmWave and supports Wi-Fi 6. , Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7.

According to Qualcomm, PCs with these new Snapdragon X Elite chipsets will be available in mid-2014. There is speculation online that these PCs could compete with Apple’s Macs, which use Apple’s M-series silicon. However, the actual performance of this platform remains to be seen.
